I was contacted at the beginning of this year and asked to create an EDWIN version of my previous project, the Willpower Vase series. This series was born from my fascination with using letters and words in design objects—especially my obsession with so-called “Live, Laugh, Love” products. Although those often can be in kitschy or tacky styles, I love the clarity and guidance they offer through their messages. I attempted to create a spin-off that’s perhaps less kitschy, with a pinch more seriousness.
Each of my Willpower vases was digitally engraved with different messages—encouraging yet disciplinary—originally written in Korean. Creating a vase for Edwin, engraved in Japanese, was a very interesting process.
I wrote a philosophical and resolute text for Edwin that aligns with their brand identity. Translating it from Korean to English, then to Japanese—and communicating this entire process with the Edwin team based in Germany—added a unique layer to the collaboration. When I made the original series in 2024, it felt almost like a motto, a monologue, or a personal promise—a very solitary act. But this time, with so many people involved, it evolved into something more like a shared collective thought.
